Hello friends and welcome back to BORP. Between adjusting to semi post pandemic summer activities, Mickey's continued furtherance of scholastic studies, and Tristan essentially moving to the beach to teach surfing to unsuspecting passers by despite barely being able to swim himself, it's been a while since we were able to get an episode finished. Luckily, what an episode it is for you all.
Hello friends, welcome to BORP EP 51 and get ready for some fun- sorry about the lame rhyme there. It's great to be back in the studio and sharing our hot, occasionally silly takes on music and film. Mickey is fully immersed in that micro dosing life but if you thought that would calm him down a little think again.
Hello friends and at last welcome back to BORP. after a long pandemic safety related hiatus we are finally back with the big EP 50! We're super excited to be back and have missed you all very much. After so long of not being able to record together Mick and Tristan spend time catching up on their newly hermetic life styles. Mick is drinking a lot more tea and Tristan mostly just wants to play with Pete The Cat.
Hello friends, welcome to EP 49 of BORP- we are very excited to have you joining us today! As we transition firmly into Autumn, Tristan fills more and more with existential dread as the onset of winter approaches. However he does get to show off more of his sweaters. Mickey has elected to take a brief sabbatical from drinking in hopes of living his best life and having a shinier beard. You can't see because it's a podcast but it is absolutely working, oh wow.
Hello friends and welcome to EP 48 of BORP. What a time to be alive, yes? Maybe don't think too hard about that. In this episode Tristan and Mick ponder yet again the coming Nickleback reckoning that all Canadians must one day endure. Mickey reminisces on the good old days of the east coast house scene in the 80s while Tristan tries to preemptively prevent Drake from suing us. Not today Drake!
Hello fellow residents of our dystopian- and hopefully alternate- reality that is 2020. Welcome to episode 47 of BORP. In this round Mick discusses his time spent at the recent indigenous rights demonstration from oration to musical output. Meanwhile Tristan has recently discovered vitamins and supplements so it's a bit of a sliding scale for self betterment.
Hello friends and welcome to EP 46 of BORP. As this episode airs protests across America and across the world are still being organized in response to police brutality and systemic racism against the black and BIPOC communities. Even as media attention moves on to other topics as it invetibley always does, its important to acknowledge that these protests and the advocates helping organize them are absolutely not going away until some real changes happen.
Hello friends and welcome to EP 45 of BORP! A quick note before getting into the preview. The turnaround time between recording, editing, and posting our episodes is not super fast, which is kind of the way we like it. As such, this episode was recorded before the racist murder of George Floyd sparked protests confronting police brutality and systemic racism around the globe, which is why there is no discussion of it.
Welcome to EP 44 of BORP. We are very excited to bring you all sorts of neat content about music, film, and beer. Mickey is speaking more and more in French lately so there is also that. Tristan discusses his various Star Wars themed socks while Mickey has some slightly more intimate swag that none of us saw coming. We try to figure out the difference between internet rap and Soundcloud rap but don't make much progress.
Hello Friends and welcome to EP 43 of BORP. Our show has settled comfortably into middle age by now. We are no longer sure of what is hip in music anymore or even what day it is really, although that may be quarantine related. Lots to cover in this episode, including why exactly Mickey has a case of Caribous in his fridge.
Hello friends and welcome to EP 42 of BORP! It's gonna be a long one, but we figured you've got time these days. As we adjust to our new isolated reality we've endeavoured to not make the show entirely Covid related, but we do check in with Tristan and Mick to see how things have shaken out for them (hint- both unemployed).
Ok Team welcome to EP41 of BORP! We usually record about two weeks before each episode goes live. It's often a bit odd to write about things that we're going down two weeks in the past but it's never that much of a big deal. Of course in the last two weeks the world has been irrevocably changed, to the point where anything prior to the coronavirus breaking the world seems sadly irrelevant. On the flip side, after a week or so of being inundated like never before with one single unrelenting topic, hopefully it'll be a nice change to listen to something that's not related to our rehearsal for the end of the world.
G'day mates! Welcome to EP 40 of BORP! Good lord we've made it to 40 episodes, congratulations to you for sticking with us this far. It's a special one for us so worked hard for you- the listener- to make it a heckin' good one. Mick explains the economic values of a boxed wine diet while Tristan retreats into the 90s for yet another Fraiser reference- so off to a good start. For the beers (7:07) we both take a trip to New Westminster for inspiration. Tristan got his hands on the much coveted Blush Rose Saison by Steel & Oak where as Mick introduces us to an India Pale Kolsch by one of the newest, coolest breweries in the area, Another Beer Company.
Ok friendos welcome to EP39 of BORP! we have survived the New Years winter Armageddon to bring you, the listener (!), yet another round of Mick and Tristan's inane banter. When we are on point we discuss a wide range of interesting music and film, however the conversation does at a couple points devolve into discussing Mickey's beard. Again. Elsewhere Tristan goes on a rueful, weather related rant regarding his woefully inadequate garbage service. Don't Get him started! Lets dig in.
Ok friendos welcome to EP38 of BORP! In our last episode of 2019 we take some time to chat about our top 100 tracks of the year and very nearly come to blows on repeated occasions; mostly just slap fights, really. We pay little service to the notion of dark heavy holiday beers for this round and instead pretend its summer for our beverages picks
ok crew welcome to EP 37 of BORP! we tweaked the format a little for this one based on feedback that the show is just too damn long. This is fair! Are we going to cut back on the content? Hell heckin' no! What we did do however is split the episode into two parts. Part 1 will feature one of our beverage choices, and our album & film analysis. Part 2 will have the second beverage choice, new and noteworthy and three questions for our man T.
Ok friends welcome back to BORP! In this episode we are relived as all heck to have Mickey back safe and sound from his adventures down in California at Dessert Daze. Think Lord Of The Rings meets Hunter S Thompson by way of Mick's quirky mannerisms. In between finding his in inner katra (inner dharma?) he saw some pretty great bands and he's gonna talk about them something fierce.
Ok friends welcome to EP 35 of BORP. We go through some wild mood swings in this one, everything from the existential malaise of being lost in the Canadian wilderness to nerding the damn hell out over the purest if sci fi fun. But first- some beers.
ok friendos, WE'RE BACK! Summer has been real heckin' crazy and due to just no damn time we had to take a couple months off recording new episodes. We are very sorry and we missed you all and we will never leave you again. We hope you're all itching for good old fashion episode of BORP cause this one is boardering on obnoxiously long- but also really fun.
Ok Crew Welcome to EP 31 of BORP. After featuring possibly one of the weirdest intro songs to date the boys dive right into the Fraiser deep cut references just for kicks. Mick accidentally coins a new millennial term and we are pretty happy about it.
Ok crew, welcome to EP 30 of BORP- can't believe we made it this far! This one's a super extra special fun time episode and we've got the swag to prove it. To celebrate EP 30 Mick and Tristan both got a little something special for each other
Ok friendos welcome to EP 29 of the Beats On Repeat Podcast. This one is a real ripper and we've got the scars to prove it. To start off with we try two wildly different beers: A märzen from @redcollarbrewing brewing and wild ale blend from @bellwoodsbeer out in Toronto
Ok Crew, welcome to EP 28 of Beats on Repeat. Heck of a ride this one is, that's for damn true. In this round we go full on 90s with our album and film picks. We listen to Beck's 1999 album Midnight Vultures, in all of its ridiculous and hedonistic glory.
Ok crew welcome to EP27! This one has some wild swings between hard earned emotional growth and just hysterical levels of terror. Should be fun! Or at least should be easier with some beers.
Ok crew welcome to EP26! In this episode Mick and Tristan decide its time to franchise the brand and release a board game about the show. Experience the thrill of Mickey talking about gear and Tristan spilling beer from the comfort of your own home.
Ok crew welcome to EP25! in this episode Tristan and Mick contemplate the implications and impact of digital assistants and smart speakers in how we interact with media. JK we make one dumb joke about it and move on pretty quick. The new studio cat Missy Elliot continues to be heckin cute/ screws with our recording equipment.
Hello friends and welcome back to BORP. For EP 53 Mickey and Tristan collectively accepted the demoralizing transition from summer to fall is in full swing. Mickey is handling this metamorphosis with the grace and dignity he is known for and Tristan is... coping. So really everyone is maturing. Moving onto the show, for our album pick (11:50) we listened to the 1996 snarling and pugilistic hip hop opus Wrath of the Math by Jeru The Damaja
