On Repeat: 'Aurora' By Goosetaf

Down tempo low impact trip electronica has been slowly permeating the pop song bag of tricks for years. What started as variable bedroom pop renditions has expanded all the way up the food chain to stadium bangers. With that it mind, it’s nice to take a step back from the algorithmic integration in the arsenal of pop stardom and listen to it in its more pure and embryonic forms. With that in mind, we recommend checking out Seattle artist Goosetaf and his track ‘Aurora’ from his 2018 LP Limbo. Relaxed and ambient melodies are knitted together from woozy glitch electronica. It’s akin to acts like Mux Mool, Gold Panda, and Chrome Sparks. Slowly paced and naturalistic break beats and glossy bell synth cautiously mark points of punctuation. Shimmering bits of twilight pop within a soundscape of out of focused sequences. It creates a vibe of lucidity either slipping away or gently crawling back into your conscious, as if the track would function just as well as a gentle alarm or lullaby to nod off to. Despite it being a relatively brief interlude, it’s sense of pace and compositional effervescence would allow it be looped for an hour without any groans of redundancy from those listening. In fact, repeated listenings to the short track draw more attention to the clacking and fidgety percussion dancing beneath the viscous layers of synth. If this all sounds a bit abstract, check out EP 28 Beats On Repeat and listen for yourself.
