New Track: ‘Olbass All Bass 004’ By Vegyn commemorates electronica’s past and present

Joe Thornalley aka “Vegyn” might just break all of you’re pre conceived notions on what an electronic album listening experience can be, and its a good thing. With the release of his second full length studio album Text While Driving If You Want To Meet God! (that has seventy-one tracks) the London based producer coming off his 2017 single Phone Phoneys and previous collaboration work on Frank Ocean’s Blonde (2016) has somehow managed to squeeze a ton of his archived concepts in to one epic release. Maybe “Mixtape” is the correct term here? Now whether you can describe them as full songs may be debatable but what they definitely feel like are short musical concepts and exercises in advanced production technique. Vegyn’s style is steeped in break beats and sample/audio manipulation and Ollbass All Bass 004 is just that. Jagged stutter-y synth lines floating across an earth of rooted, soft bass drum hits. Like a rhythmic ride to a quasar, hi hats faze in and out at just the right moments leaving you with just enough of that sixteenth note shuffle. Whether intended or not, tracks like this pay homage to all the great electronic groups of past and present that embraced the simplicity of a good drum machine beat with some swing and a catchy hook. And with Text While Driving If You Want To Meet God! Vegyn embraces the essence of what electronic music is: experimentation. here is our current favourite track but we recommend giving this album your full attention, it’s only 71 songs.
