Luppolo Brewing's Evoluta II Will Knock You Down But Ensure A Soft Landing

Wouldn’t be an episode of Beats On Repeat if we didn’t try and fail to hold our liquor a little. For EP26 we checked out one of the newer Vancouver breweries, @luppolo_brewing. Luppolo is located around Venables and Clark, and they’ve been brewing since 2016. Their vibe is one of those small town familial Italian cantina sorta styles, and it’s just lovely in there. In 2018 to celebrate their 2nd anniversary they released the Evoluta II and we snagged one. It’s a bourbon barrel aged dubbel and if that sounds intimidating, oh man is it ever. A dubbel is Belgian beer that adheres to the traditional Trappist beer convention. Think dark and dry fruits like prunes and dates as well as caramelized beet sugar. At 9%ABV a little goes a heck of a long way. Very dense, very rich, very sweet. The sweetness comes from the vanilla and caramel tones from the barrels likely. Not exactly a session beer, but it’s a heck of a ride. Great job team!
