Jamie's Top 10 Tracks Of The 2010s
A bit late, but here are some sweet sounds to help you rasp nostalgic from a decade full of excellent music.
Jamie Mah @grahammah
Ten songs for ten years. Seems easy, eh? Hardly. This past decade proved to be just as substantial with regards to the content of music we were provided as any before it.
The decade started with a bang as seminal albums from both Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem dropped early on, with the former’s winning album of the year at the Grammy’s, a stunner to say the least.
Not to be outdone by these two behemoths, 2010 also saw the release of The Black Angels best record to date, ‘Directions to See a Ghost’, a dark and heavy outfit led by standout singles Science Killer and You on the Run. This album’s rise would help lead a resurgence of the psychedelic, as artists like Tame Impala, Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, The Growlers and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard would soon find footing amongst a younger audience looking for a new sound – one that was fast and fun. Gone were the days of dark sombre rock from bands like Interpol, The Strokes or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. New groups were emerging and their footing would last throughout the decade.
But all wasn’t rock and heavy. Indie music flourished like never before, with many artists breaking through and gaining global attention, The War On Drugs being a standout in this field. The emergence of bands like Real Estate, Deerhunter and Beach House showcased the depth and breadth of this genre as each of these groups successes would be fuelled by their ingenious and unique sound.
Other notables who stood out and found prominence were Mac Demarco, Conan Mockasin, Kurt Vile, Washed Out, Allah-Las and Khruangbin just to name a few.
Lastly, not to be outdone by younger upstarts, several established artists put out some of their best work in years, most notably The Brian Jonestown Massacre with ‘Revelation’, Beck with ‘Morning Phase’ and Slowdive with ‘Slowdive.’
As you can see, there was a tonne of great music for me to choose from. Here then are the ten tracks I enjoyed the most.

The Black Angels — Science Killer
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard — The River
Real Estate — Past Lives
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard — Robot Stop
The War on Drugs — Pain
Slowdive — Slomo

Kurt Vile — Wakin On a Pretty Day
